Accurate meteorology

Accurate winds are absolutely critical for accurate source strength and emission derivation. Field data suggest AMOG 3D wind accuracy is ~0.2 m s-1 and ~15° for winds above 1.5 m s-1 at highway speeds. Stronger winds and/or slower collection speed improves accuracy. Wind filtering algorithms are key to mitigate the effects of obstacles and topography.

Observed winds collected at highway speed during a pipeline leak survey, match closely expected flow field based on topography – faster in front of canyons and divergence in front of downwind hills. Note, these winds are weaker than 1 m s-1.

AMOG comparison with airborne velocity measurements collected during a profile up the Sierra Nevada Mountains showed excellent agreement after wind filtering.
